Hi,

I have just replaced the head gasket, serviced etc. on my landy's 2.25 diesel engine.

Started filling her back up with water only to find a leak at the back of the main block. Not at the top but the bottom, behind the slump.

The water is running clear, hope its just the seal. Not a blown engine?

Thanks

It might be a core plug rotted through above the flywheel housing. Try to use a mirror to see where the water is coming from. There are no water seals at the back of the engine.

hmm, I pretty sure it isn't coming from the top part of the engine, but out the bottom next to the sump

If the water is definiely not coming from the upper part of the engine then something may have gone wrong with the installation of the cylinder head and water is leaking internally into the sump. You could have a look on the dipstick to see if there is water on it.

I wonder if the water is running down the side of the engine and trickling out at the bottom giving the illusion its comming from there, this has got me before.
A pressure test would be a good idea if you could borrow a jig, or make one.
