Hi guys my name is lincon. I have had my discovery 2 TDi on 02 plate 111000 miles for 4 weeks. Week 1, it started to leak desiel. Luckily it was under warranty so it went back. It turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator. Unfortunately the work completed was shoddy, the mechanics had the truck for 4 days and even though they changed the part it still leaked - I ended up paying a rite mechanic to do a proper job. So fuel leak fixed. I then noticed another leak. I have narrowed this down to a coolant leak - quite large patch after truck has been parked. I think this because if I soak up the fluid with some kitchen roll the fluid has a pink tint to it, the coolant i use is pink. My problem is I can't see where the leak is coming from. I have looked down and looked up but cant see much at all. The leak finds its way to the floor via the hole left by a missing screw in the plastic protective cover under the engine at the front. So no white smoke, no over heating, had all the covers off and can't see any issues with head gasket or pink staining, no issues with milky water and the heater seems to work fine with no gurgling. I keep topping up the water tank. My biggest fear is that I have a craked block. Any advise or pointers would be very welcome, thanks in advance guys.

hi mate, there are a few places you can get coolant leaks from, split hoses, leaky rad etc, but water pump is one of the usual suspects. if the seal has gone, you will see a leak from a weep hole in the pump casing below the pump itself.

Thanks Bobdog. I loose coolant even when the engine is cold. Does this signify any particular type of coolant leak?

Up date. On my way to work today the temp gauge when to its normal level - half way. When I got to work I did not turn engine off straight away and after a few mins I notice the temp gauge had dropped half way between cold and middle. I thought it might be because I had stopped driving so I drove round the site but no temp gauge did not go back up I could see it moving up and down very slightly though. Will this also be to do with the water leak. Any advise welcome

if you are losing coolant with the engine off, its obviously quite significant, i.e. not just leaking under pressure. may be a holed rad. temp gauge dropping shows you are losing coolant. you would notice the heaters blowing cold before the gauge drops. if your engine has an undertray, remove it and leave it off so you can see where the leak is coming from. also get someone to rev the engine while you look. it will be more obvious under pressure.

Thanks guys. Thought you might like an up date. Turns out that the water leak is a busted water pump. Today I stated my beloved Td5 and the alternator packed in so left it at home. When came home there is no a patch of clear oil fluid on the floor under engine at the front slightly to the right of centre. It's not a puddle more of a patch? Oh water pump and alternator over £500 inclusive of labour.

You could ask for local assistance and supply beer, food and companionship for their expertise?

(Obviously it is at your discretion as to how "friendly" you get whilst working on your vehicle)

Keep us posted, obviously if it turns into broke back mountain, we don't need to know ;)

Broke back Mountain...is that a mechanicing film? I will get the wife to get me the box set o_O.

Community assistance... sounds good!
