Hi everyone newbie here

I have a mystery water leak on my classic 1995 3.9 V8
after some journeys it chucks out 2-3 litres of water from engine
Have had radiator pressure tested all OK

seems to come out of block somewhere but cant see where?

temp guage unmoved and OK

Stop for LPG return to car and 2-3 litres of water running across the forecourt!!!!

Any ideas

Definately not head gasket

Leak seems to be coming from area behind the distributer
where top rad hose goes into the head
But not a weep or drip
its dry for a time then 2-3 litres on the floor in seconds
Has once caused engine to cut out I assume it flooded the distributer!!!

Hi

Sounds like you're thermostat gasket has failed. Does the water appear to come from a housing with two bolts and a pipe behind the dizzy? If so undo these bolts remove the housing and clean all the gasket off, it may be a good idea to replace the thermostat too as it sounds like it may be sticking.

Then replace the gasket (Gonna cost you about £3- £4 ish from halfords inc gaskets/thermostat) Bolt everything up and you should be ok.

If not then the inlet manifold may have or you have a split pipe, if it's manifold gasket that's a horrid job had to do it to my 89 Range Rover.

Hope this is some kind of help

I have the same trouble with my 98 4.6 V8.

Keeping fingers crossed its not the head gasket - I'm hoping for the water pump.

Any ideas anyone?
