water in seat boxes

for small showers I don't bother to cover up the s1 or 3 if they are topless. however, this unfortunately means water gets into the under seat storage.

I am sure I am not the only one to face this issue, do people drill a drain hole or try and cover them so water doesn't get in.

It cant possibly rain in Surrey darling it would ruin ones quiff.

yes we cut the cucumber so thin it would dissolve

When he says bang a nail in, that's actually way better than drilling a hole!!

It'll take a couple of attempts, hopefully, but doing so will also slightly distort the seat bases so that the hole is actually really at the lowest point and will drain more water, more easily. Drill a hole in a corner, or even the centre, just means water has to slosh about to get to it, pools elsewhere and causes (more) rust ..

makes a lot of sense, and I don't have to remember where I put my drill so that's an added bonus

Or put a seal round the box lid?

It might only need a dribble of water to create condensation too. I would try to seal the thing first - you can almost guarantee water will not drain effectively depending on how level the ground is and which way you park it. Driving in the wet you might actually get water drawing in there as you splash through puddles.

If it bothers you, use a period nail!

Yeah, old and rusty, preferably hand forged square nails for horses hooves ... Keeps the provenance going and the patina!!



Or, bash a dent into the base of the seat box and drill it nicely in the exact centre .. but I know what I did ..

a seal is probably the most aesthetic solution but it isn't just the lid where the water gets in there are small gaps caused by distortions from years of heavy use and the odd strategic small hole drilled in places god knows why

monsieur nail would be the quickest job.

if I ever do a full blown resto in my twilight years I would probably get a new seatbox

Will I have to remove the seat first

actually the s1 box looks as though it would seal quite easily so I shall seal that with some rubber strip and nail the s3
