water coming from bottom of water pump

Hi my p38 4.0se, is leaking water like a sink, seems to be coming out of a flange from the bottom of the water pump, the pulley feels loose on the pump movemant left to right, i know its probably a new water pump but do these have bearing in.. when started the pump makes a weird like grinding noise when the pump is spinning , can anyone shed any lighht on this???

yes, everythin that spins got a bearing, sounds like w'pump gone shop around u'll get one bout 50 notes

A most excellent case of self diagnosis.

change the pump, i got mine from island 4x4 less than 30 quid Water Pump 4.0/4.6 STC4378 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.

easy to change but try to get the fan assy off whilst its on the car, if you need to use heat use boiling water not a heat torch cos you'll feck the vissy coupling!!

Cheers all for the advise, going to try it this weekend if i get the time, do i need a special tool to get the viscous off or can i get it off, with two spanners...

its not and easy job bht its possible!!! mine was seizes and i had to press the bearing out of the housing but it you aint got a large press take it off on the car.
