Hi All,
I have a 1998 Freelander with some very serious vibration. The thing rattles so badly that the side mirror has been rendered useless due to the vibration.
I took it to a mechanic who replaced the struts and did a few other things to it but was not able to get the tail shaft straightened when he took it out and took it to an engineer.
I refuse to spend $4,500 (Aus dollars) for a new tail shaft & joint so I told him that I would call various wreckers & used parts shops in Aus to track down something cheaper. He told me to make sure that I asked for a tail shaft with a good top CV joint as that was the real problem but Land Rover had made the joints & shaft as a whole which is why both had to be replaced.
The first used parts outfit I called said that no, the parts could be purchased seperately.
Now I don't know if my mechanic is trying to rip me off because I am obviously uneducated in all aspects of car repair.
Please help! Any feedback or advice anyone can give would be appreciated.
