hi, ive just purchased my first freelander and ive got a few niggles.
First of all was the dodgy ignition switch got that sorted! But theres one problem that frustrating me. After accelerating after about 30 seconds of driving and not changing up or down gears the engine warning light comes on but if i take my foot off the accelerator it goes off!!

i cant use my fault code reader because its not on whilst stood still only when driving as i explained:mad:

Anyone got any ideas??

Yep check those two big hoses at the front especially the smaller right angled one - get them off - splits are hard to see.

there is a power loss when the lights on but if i put my foot down before the light comes on its fine and as to the smoke theres none?
The alarm keeps goin off but i think that maybe the ignition switch thats causing that maybe?

which pipes do i need to inspect ive had a look today but cant quite figure out which ones you mean is it the big turbo intake pipe or the 2 little ones underneath?

The big ones on top - here is mine - the split was underneath and must have been small for ages then let go.

Thanks for that angeloc im gonna have a look in the morning but if a pipe was split surely there'd be a power loss all the time. Anyway i'll ave a look and see wots comes of it thanks again

It seems mine was a small split that was closing up but opening under varying loads. The pipes have also been known to collapse or partially collapse under load restricting air flow - they get soft.

Made all the difference to mine - well mine failed with some gusto on the motorway - black smoke MIL on power drop then ok then not etc. Changed hose problem solved

hi angeloc,
Ive checked all pipes today and all is well, im a bit gutted to be honest because i was kind of hoping i would of had it fixed today :(
But on the other hand i noticed that the actuator on the bulk head has a pipe coming off it with a filter on it exacly the same as the one in the link below (sorry havent quite mastered uploading pictures yet)

Land Rover Freelander Td4 Variable Vane Turbo Actuator | eBay

but it says its for a td4 engine and not a di like mine do you think this could be the reason why? also theres no pipe coming off the filter its just like it is in the picture???

Sorry I had assumed you had a TD4 I used to have a DL but never had to do anything significant on that in 10 years!

With the td4 the filter is like that and is open ended - it's a breather

Someone on here who knows DLs better than me will n doubt chip in.

Usual sequences are checking and using electrical cleaner on all plugs.

lol ok thanks for the help anyway mucg appreciated i must admit when i saw the pics of your split turbo hoses i knew they was different..........
Anyway thanks again angelco

Hey Don.. not that I can help, but I have had a "check engine" light that comes on for a couple of days..This is the left check engine light.. then disappears on it's own.. It was explained to me that if the emission system detects an error ie in the exhaust.. it will light up the light, but after running for a while when the system does another check, if the fault is not there.. the light goes out.
It happens occasionally on my '03 2.5 litre V6 and I"ve tried to reset by disconecting battery etc with no success.. but then it goes out after a day or 2 and I forget all about it till the next time.
I've noticed that it tends to come on when taking my foot off the gas, which would suggest that it might just be sensing a bit of unburned gas in the exhaust.
