So, What's the best way of insulating my 'pride and joy' against these rather chilly elements. Seen some Whotube videos where foil insulation is applied direct to the walls, roof and tub etc.
Is this good, can I not just stick some of those foam camping mats all over the place?

What's good for insulation people?

I have 4 jumpers on, some thermals and a hat and still feel really parky.
Oh, that's just because my heater blower has its handle broken off - in the 'really weak' position.
Nene Overland wanted £55 for a new heater blower !!!! It can't cost that much, can it !??!??!!
Anyway. . . that's another story.

What do you guys use for heat retention and insulation ??
Shivering and growing icicles !!

Matt

So what you really need is a new handle?

Quite a few use the closed cell camping mats which are cheap as chips. I have opted for foam bought at auto jumble. Not as cheap but comes as a roll.

If you have a cubby box you may want to consider heated seat pads which you can get off eBay as a kit

Camping mats all the way, cheapest option, I have done mine and the difference it made in sound proofing and warmth is very noticable...

Camping mats. Tescos sell some with a foil covered side. Look smarter and provides some radiation reflection not just convection insulation.

Not quite certain what is broke, you say the handle has broken off but then say a new blower is £55 so what is it?
If the lever is broken, don't want to buy new and can't find one secondhand whay not just put it in the "on" position using whatever tools are required and leave it there?

As for insulation, personally I have NEVER bothered. The heater on my 90 soft-top works perfectly, I have a fume curtain and never find the need for loads of additional clothing etc. Warm-up is under 5-miles and then it stays nice & toasty even in the really bad winters we have had in recent years. Not saying that insulation doesn't make a difference because of course it does but it is just that I have never found a need for it plus all that bare metal is easier to keep clean and there is no trapped moisture (which or course leads to corrosion).
I think these vehicles left the factory with the heaters miss-adjusted, I set mine up 13-years ago (took me almost 10-minutes!) and it has never been a problem since. Just because the lever is showing the flaps open and/or closed, doesn't mean that they actually are and those solid cables have a habit of sticking which means you are moving both the inner & outer resulting in no change to the flap position.

Interesting Litch (sorry - brief hijack....) - how did you adjust? The up/down selector on mine gets to about half and half and then there is a loud 'pop' under the dash and it goes slack, with no further change to the distribution, so can never get 100% into the footwells....

Done it since new 12 years ago......

If easy direct to any thread you had on the subject - or maybe I should start a new one (after doing a search of course.....;) )

OP - if its just the lever that's broken off on the dash, its no more than a bent strip of metal anyway, so repair or replace seems easy enough? A
