want a freelander which one to get ??

hi guys just a few questions
im thinking of getting a freelander . my brother in law as one .the question is what engine . i have been looking on autotrader and can see alot of them on there but they dont really tell you what engine are in them just 2.0di
now my brother inlaw as a common rail engine in his and someone said its a td4. is the common rail the way to go or are they just the same in power and mpg.
talking about mpg what sort of miles would i expect . my pajeo is doing about 28mpg and thats a auto..
also what should i be looking for . when buying . and what is the best one to get with all the toys .
i had a go in my brother inlaws free lander yesterday and i notice that he as got really bad turbo lag. is this the same on most cars or does it need a service

td4 doozle is best 2002 on , go very well should not ave any lag [smooth as a babys bum] bout 34- 38 mpg pends on how ya drive , the auto's are the dogs, if ya like that kinda set up. . . .
