Wandering disco

Anyone had know any possible causes for a disco to wander, particularly at high speed on the motorway?
I've adjusted the steering box to remove the backlash, replaced the drag link ball-joints, had two new tyres fitted to the front and had the tracking corrected and changed the rear shock upper mount bushes.
It feels like its top heavy.....after a very slight input of steering it seems to oversteer. Any ideas gratefully received!!!

have you got 255 tyres ?

was speaking to the bloke at an LR specialist when i was shopping round for mine and he said there's a tendency for the wide tyres to "follow" the ruts in the tarmac made by HGV's, whereas the narrower tyres are able to skip in and out of the ruts more easily (and hence, less noticably)

i've got 255's, and although only done a very few motorway miles as yet, i've noticed a bit of wandering across some well used main roads which - on later inspection - do have the "HGV ruts"

Nope - I've got 235/70's fitted. It does also do it on other roads more noticeable on straight roads - I also think the body roll has increased, I have checked the anti-roll bars/bushes and they look ok but I'm not sure how much movement is the norm!

Sounds like a classic tracking problem - worth having it re-checked just to be sure. Won't cost a bomb. Any sign of scuffing on the front tyre tread edges or too early to tell since the problem appeared?

Too early to tell I think, they don't look scuffed. Tracking should be ok 'cos I only changed balljoints on drag link between lh wheel and steering box drop arm - but might be worth checking anyway thanks!!

What are your shockers like?
Swivel pin ajustment Ok?
Discos dont like heavy loads on roof racks if you have one!

I think my next job is to check/change the rear shocks. Changed the rear upper bushes recently, not sure but I think it may have got worse since! So I'll check the shocks and mounts again. Swivels are ok - checked them! And I don't have a roofrack - disco won't go in my garage with it fitted!!

change your steering damper

Have had that off vehicle and it felt it had equal resistance in either direction, have you had experience of this then? You sound very certain!!
