Got wading kit taking air from diffs, transfer box and gearbox. Also put plug in timing box cover for off roading today (will remove soon). Question is - Tried to do same to clutch bell housing but could not find hole. I assume it is right on the bottom ? If so, mine already has plug in to which I am advised is not good practise and should be removed. Anyone confirm the position of hole in bell housing please - bus is 200tdi defender 1993

Folks. 41 views but no replies, I thought you guys would have eaten his up as basic stuff. Pls let me know if I asked the question in such a way as it did not work. I am comfortable that other bits are sort edso just dont want to f*&% clutch longer term, ta K

Yup, it's right at the bottom as it's purpose is to allow oil leaks to drain out without contaminating the clutch. How long have you had the car? It's possible someone wanted to hide the fact that there was a leak and hence left the plug in deliberately:eek:

Thanks for response, just 2 months so will take out plug and see what happens. I am guessing a nil response is great and any level of fluid is not ?

In an ideal world no there shouldn't be any oil built up, but it's a LR so there may be a little, which is why the hole is there in the first place. There probably won't be much otherwise you would probably have clutch problems too. A lot would leave you needing to find if it was engine or gearbox seals leaking (or both:eek:), checking levels regularly in each should show you which.
