Hi Guys

Apologies if this topic appears twice. I posted this a while ago but then couldn't find it.

I'm after some advice please after making a mod to the wading plug on my '76 series 3 109 diesel.

I've fitted an airline adapter into the crankshaft housing as a wading plug. Thread fits perfectly. I've added a 1/4 inch ( inside diameter ) braided hose to act as a breather pipe. I hope to feed this up the bulkhead and into the dash along side the speedo cable.

Question is, I've been told that the crank case needs to breathe so was wondering if this mod would still work as a wading plug but work as a permanent fixture. It saves having to crawl under every time I go through water, or loosing the plug.

Thanks

Think there are two schools of thought on wading plugs, some say leave them in and some say leave them out unless deep wading.
I say the latter, as if you get some oil leakage from front or rear crank seals which lets be honest is common, then this will build up.
If you get too much build up it will get on timing belt and crap it out early, though series 3 may have timing chain? have seen people fit BSP air hose fittings into axle breathers as the pipe is then push fit and cheaper than breather kits!
