viscous coupling in the transfer box

my recently aquired p38 i think needs a viscous coupling in the transfer box , symptoms a little vague steering ( no play whatsoever ) btw cornering especially in the wet is a bit woolley , and the other day i fitted a new front air bag and i tried to turn the front wheel i had jacked up and could`nt so i think i need a new unit , my quiery is do i need to drop the front pipes / cats to replace it like the classic`s or is it possible to squeak it past ?

when you was trying to turn the front wheel was it in park? (i know stupid question) it happens. i am of the opinion that if the vc seizes you cant turn the wheel at all, if its ok and in N it should turn at a constant rate but not quick, there is a measurement written some where that says so many degree's in so many seconds. another test is do the front tires squeal when on full lock in carparks ect? beware, front diff to follow!

hi red no it was`nt in park when i checked it , and yes i get a chirp from the front tyres not just in car parks but also turning into side streets ect, also there is a bit of viberation at speeds above 50mph .

as far as i know then thats a good sign its siezed, i think i seen them for only £60 on ebay, so not the end of the world BUT if not done the front diff will shortly follow and i bet thats a bit more than £60!!!
sorry i got no info on how they are removed.
