Firstly got a bit of juddery vibration when in any gear when decelerating at low speeds (goes if clutch is depressed) Have just done 2 inch lift and new 85 size A/Ts.... has this caused it....possibly the front porp shaft worn perhaps............

Secondly when in 5th gear get a rattle frm gearbox when coasting in gear (ie when not accelerating or decelerating just coasting in gear) Any ideas.........

cheers

Hi

Starting with the bleedin obvious (just to make sure) you havent knocked the high/low range or diff lock selector lever to anything other than high unlocked have you?

Changing wheels doesnt point directly to anything, but the jack lift will have increased the angle the prop shafts are running at, so if any universal joints are worn this could cause it, jack up a front corner and turn a wheel, this should turn the prop if only 1 wheel airbourne and have listen then repeat for rear.

Let me know if this helps,

L3on..

I have the same thing on 90 i have here , ive changed the props , ive chq all the output barings on the trancefer box, ive chqed the drive flanges on the axles , ive put polly bushes in it , ive realigned the axles so the props are straight to the trancefer box.

Ive done all sorts and its still here :( lucky for me its not to bad it only does it decelerating at about 50mhp for a few seconds.

But if you do find a cure for yours please let me know

Regards bell

Hi,

Crickey, thought I'd resurrect an ancient post ... I am getting the same thing on my Defender 90 TD5. Decelerating (basically just taking my foot of the accelerator) and when the speed gets to ~50mph in 5th there is this nasty shudder/rattle for a few seconds. I have managed to get the same noise when accelerating as well in the same speed range. Has anyone recognised this or found the cause?

Thanks

As above, check the propshafts/UJs for play - they will cause vibration and knocks when accelerating/decelerating.
