VIC check

Has anyone done one of these before?

Need to do the Disco (Cat C) before I stick the RRC body on it (will work out far easier paperwork wise). As far as I can see, I can put it in as is - accident damage has been repaired etc, it's just not MOT worthy as the sills and boot floor are going/gone. But it's not a requirement to have an MOT if you trailer it in...

Main question is, I need to be able to do it on a Friday or Saturday really (due to working away), from what I can see just whacking the form in, they'll give me a date and time to bring it in. Not much good if I can only come on 2 days a week. Are they relatively flexible or will I run into trouble here?

Other than that, I just need to find someone to tow me there, don't fancy risking it due to no trailer entitlement on my license when I'm going to VOSA

All i know about them is you dont even have to repair the vehicle. All they do is check the chassis number and other numbers etc. Just to make sure its not a ringer etc

Taking the car for a VIC

When you take your car for a VIC the following must apply:

repairs must be conducted and the car must be roadworthy and capable of being driven under its own power

if it's over three years old, the car must be covered by a valid MOT if it's being driven to the VIC

the person driving the car must be insured

the car must display front and rear number plates if it's being driven to the VIC - for assistance in obtaining number plates, contact VOSA on 0300 123 9000

A car can be driven directly to and from a pre-arranged VIC without road tax

i take it you can arrange a time to suite you going by the out of hours fee,just make sure all the numbers are correct and VISABLE as they wont pass it if they cant see it and wont remove any crud or crap to find it and if it fails i dont think you can re-submit it again

You need to ring VOSA on 0300 number and you can arrange an appointment at one of their centres, so you can tell them it needs to be friday , and they will give you a choice of centres near (or not so near) you. You then pay the fee, and will need to trailer your vehicle there, as you dont have mot . The damage that made it a cat C will need to have been done sufficient to make it in a road worthy condition . Cosmetic items are irrelevant , ie panel scatches etc . The vehicle will need to be able start and to drive safely from the trailer to the inspection building , (this is done by the examiner) You will be able to wait in the reception area (not accompany the vehicle) . The vehicle will be examined for VIN marks ( and some other things not public knowledge) . Do not be late , and do not try to unload vehicle untill told to by VOSA personnel . HTSH

Thanks for the advice, I'll give them a call once I've found a suitable driver, so you reckon I should be OK with the rusty sills and boot floor? I'll give it a bit of a clean if it helps any as well

Yep VIC (Vehicle Identity Check) is just that it it to only check the vehicles identity it is nothing more. They do not check road worthiness, repairs anything etc
