Hi all,

P38 Diesel braking issue...

As I brake from between 55mph down to 35mph, I experience a pretty severe vibration throughout the vehicle, at slower speeds the brakes feel as if they are 'tugging'.

In the past, I have replaced discs to eliminate a warped disc which I assumed was the cause but it hasn't solved the problem.

The rear end bearings were a bit wobbly so they have also been replaced but no change to the vibration. This doesn't occur on acceleration so it's not a wheel balance thing.

Does anyone know or can suggest where to look next as I'm at my wits end with this.

By the way, when the discs were replaced, I used good quality, vented discs as I was given the impression that cheaper discs are more prone to warping but as the replacement didn't change anything I am prone to eliminate warped discs.

It's driving me mad!!!

Best, D

Sounds like you have warped a disc. New discs can be destroyed if you do not wear them in properly. NO hard braking for the first 250 miles after fitting. Fitting new discs and being the last of the late brakers is fatal to them.

the way I read it he had changed the disks ages ago and it was doing it before and after the changed of disks so I would of thought it isn't disks

If fact check all steering components as well especially Steering ball joints OP

Thanks for the comments chaps,

I would say in my defense that the possibility of a worped disc is well know to me and so this set were worn in properly. I've had new discs on previuos vehicles and have never managed to warp one yet! However, it was a suspected warped disc that prompted the change and as Grit Valve said, new discs did not chase the fault away.

Grit Valve, could you be more specific about 'sliders' as I'm not certain what you are referring to exactly.

Many thanks
D

Sliders are the two pins that slide into the the caliper and Allow it to slide to take up pad wear the pins can wear and the holes that they run in check for smooth sliding with caliper removed and Excessive play or if dried up and stiff clean and regrease with copper slip or brake grease .

Got to vote warped rotor/disc....... And race car driving, late, hard braking kills them quick

There is no mention of brake pedel judder?

There are others factors that can attribute to vibrations when braking .

I know I have no pedal judder, but have bad vibration on braking, is warped rotors. If it was in the steering, then it would pop its head up, in drifting to one side or the other, or get the shakes when hitting a bump in the road

I think your find brake judder on warped disks happens at most speeds not just 55 down to 35 mph there is the clue if you read;)
