vibration on decelerating or braking

Hi Folks, I have an 05 automatic TD4 Freelander 1, which has just started vibrating on deceleration. When i lift off or brake, when the speed drops under 30mph I start to get a vibration and it sounds as if the engine wants to stall but doesn't. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.. ALEX

I'd guess at a knackerd injector, is it a bit rough for the first few seconds when you start it up?

Engine wont stall on automatic.

Find a clear road and select neutral then brake. Does it still vibrate? Selecting neutral should isolate engine /gearbox from drivetrain and wheels.

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies.

Mike, it starts fine, idles and accelerates quite smoothly.

Skynet, I'll give your suggestion to knock it out of gear as a great way to cut down the options. Will try it and let you know what happens.\\Many thanks again.
