i have a slight problem on my landy and would like to know if anyone could help?
when driving along as you do i have a slight vibration, its like a humming and only seems to happen when im in gear doin g anything between 40 and 65mph.if i dip the clutch it stops and coasts lovely and smooth.seems to get worse if im trying to accelerate hard or pull up any hills especially in gears like 3rd 4th or 5th.its hard to explain but its like a humming?changed the prop shafts but still humming! hopefully someone will be able to help before i end up changing everything to remedy it lol!
many thanks,mark.

no its on standard springs and shocks.
whats the uj's?dont mean to sound too dumb!....prob cos i am!ha
and i dont think its tyre noise as i have 4 new tyres and when i coast outta gear it goes away. thanks everyone so far for trying to help!

The complexity of a 4wd makes it a bit harder to troubleshoot.

First you have engine vibration (not usually speed-related), then you have the main gearbox, (can be speed-related), next, the transfer gearbox (slightly more likely to be speed-related). Next down the line are the propshafts, with their 4 Universal joints. Definitely speed-related. Now you have the two axle differentials, again, both speed-related. On the back you have two half-shafts, with bearings, driving the back wheels. All speed-related. Up front you also have two half-shafts, driving two Constant Velocity joints, through bearings and swivel hubs.

These are are pushed down onto the road by springs, dampers and rods.

Any one of these might be the cause of you problems.

Strangely, by jacking it up, bit by bit, and wiggling the various bits mentioned, you can generally decide on which bit is most worn out. Change it, and test again, etc.. until you're broke or bored.
