ive had this issue for a while and only just thought about looking into it
when i rev the engine it vibrates more than in should i meen the whole car vibrates, does it when driving or in nutral.
power wise its fine but it does have a rough tickover but i think thats nothing to do with the above problem.
anyone got any ideas?
i was thinking mayby the flywheel or somthing out of balance?

if you hold it steady at 3k rpm, does it vibrate? or is it only when revs are rising and falling?

sounds like its not firing on all 8 to me.
I'd try removing plug leads in turn to see if you can find one that doesn't make a difference.

ive been playing with the plug leads today and they all seem to be ok.
i did have head gasket probs a while back but i put some steel seal in and it cured it, but my neighbour said it could be the head gasket has gone between two cylinders?
would that cause engine vibration?

I'd say it could well do - compression test on each cylinder would be next step. If the gasket is gone between two cylinders, then they'll both be down on pressure.

The only thing that will cure an head gasket problem is a new head gasket. Be warned.

Could also be a cam lobe flattened off so one cylinder is just a passenger. Not uncommon with Rover V8s. Sadly if it's got to that stage then there probably swarf in every plain bearing in the engine. The fix at that stage is new bearing shells all-round (assuming journals are okay) new rocker shafts and rockers, new camshaft, and followers. Obviously the oil pump has to be checked out carefully. A wet and dry compression check is your best bet there, however, head gasket failure will often give the same symptoms as outlined above.

Of course double-check the firing order, a Rangie can still make seemingly adequate power with two leads swapped over!
