very quiet whinning sound

hello everyone,

i'm a new freelander owner and i know very little about freelanders.

i have a quick question, when i start the car, it makes this very quiet whinning noise, if i press the gas it goes abit louder like high pitched, it also happens while i'm driving between 60-70 mph, but disappears when i let the gas go. has anyone else come across this? thank you in advance for any info.

Wot model is it ? we int that good. . . .sure you int got floppy in yer motor

sorry..... it's a 1999 5 door 1.8 petrol, k series engine, 85k miles,

one other thing i forgot to mention, it makes a loud screething noise when i first start it up, but the noise disappears within 2 seconds!

I checked the gridref they sent me and it appears to we're meeting in the middle of an MOD bombing range. Apparently If I'm 1st one there I'm to light a smoke flare their sending me.

Vacuum or turbo pipe leak?

This forum is really useful, i spent 4 hrs yesterday reading the threads, some real interesting threads and some which make me feel i should have looked into this forum before i bought the freelander, but i still like the car, it's something different!
