Thinking of changing my air intake and wing top vent covers… because I can...

I can see the wing top ones screw off, but the side one… does that just lever off and the new one push on?

Just wondering!

fanks!

Ahhh awesome thanks. I thought as much, just didn't want to do it and then have a nasty surprise!

fear not Rosie, I found you a tool kit

Though the brand name looks a bit dubious....A DP means something else in my mind entirely.

Hello everyone ... Recently got myself a new side vent (meal with holes). Once I pried off the old side plastic vent I realised there were holes to screw the plate in to, however the previous plastic vent left its "needle" bits in it as it broke off. Does anyone know what size / type of small screw I can use (with the plastic bit which the screw screws in to, if that makes sense).

Cheers

Grommets?

I used a 3mm drill bit to clear out the pins, drilled matching holes in the cover and fixed it with some small self tappers wot I found in my nuts and bolts box. (I used the original cover which had lost all but one pin). I bought some threaded inserts but did not use them as it would have permanently attached the air intake duct to the wing.

Thanks for the quick response. What size threaded inserts did you buy? I have not thought about drilling the pin holes larger, but might have to do that, although I prefer not to. Unfortunately I do not have a box'o'spares with these so have to order online :)

I figured that as the original pins sheared off it is a crap way of attaching the grill so I had no qualms about drilling. The 3mm drill left plenty of the original grommet to take a self tapper and isolate the steel screw from the ally wing (avoiding bi-metal corrosion).

That's a good starter pack. You'll probably need some non-flanged screws at some point as well, but you can add to your screw collection as and when. You'll soon build up a fine assortment of screws, washers, nuts and bolts etc!

Hah, yes indeed. At this rate I will need a bigger tool shed to house my tools and things, followed by a larger / another Defender to bring more tools and things home, followed by a larger shed, followed by ....
