Yes probably for putting up another veg oil post. Fire away.

I have spent ages researching veg oil for my Defender 200Tdi on this site and elsewhere. There is loads of advice out there and loads of nifty kit. It looks like I could spend hundreds of pounds and many hours on biodiesel or fit twin tanks/ heated fuel filters etc for WVO. So far I have experimented with 50/50 new SVO (75p/litre) which worked fine and started first turn at -3 degrees. I now have a potential source of WVO which could meet all my needs for not a lot of money.

However, I am a lazy twt and a tighter than a nat's chuff:D.

This is what I intend to do:

1) No changes to the vehicle (Defender 200tdi with Bosch pump). No preheating.
2) Cold filtering of the WVO with minimal settling
3) No white spirit kero etc added
4) Run it at about 10-20% diesel to 80-90% WVO.
5) Keep a keen eye on the fuel filter for the first 1000 miles then forget about it.

Am I an idiot?
If so, which is my biggest mistake (apart from this thread)?
What is the worst that could happen?
Are there any other idiots like me running like this?

Is anyone else getting the red diesel banner add lmao.....................

Interesting. Don't mind being a guinea pig if it works....

Has anyone cold filtered WVO to 1 micron? That was one bit that I thought might not work. Heating everything to 60 degrees for filtering seems to be the recommendation.

i used to run my 200 on 100% new oil, when it was cheap about 3 years ago.
Had no probs at all in the summer and went 50/50 in the winter. went better, was smoother, quieter, less black smoke but does stink though.

i used to pass oil through a sieve to get the bits out and wack in a bit o unleaded petrol, pour straight in.I even pulled in at a station one time when going up country and hoiked out some fat tins from the back and fuelled up in the hoover bay....most people didnt know which way too look.
The mrs was ok as we had 275 litres in the back for our holiday...

This is the good stuff I was after - now where can I get a free sieve?

How much is "a bit" of unleaded?

i ran 100%svo untill diesel became cheaper, what i would be tempted to do with regards to filtering is.......... get a fuel filter housing off of a merc (cant remember which one but i will check tomorrow) it uses a filter that has a water separator built in. get a transfer pump and two 50 gallon drums put your wvo in one and filter it into the other. my cousin does it with a standard marine fuel filter (off of a broads cruiser)

Great idea - thanks.

I used to run my 200 tdi on 90% svo when it was cheap. Back on the diesel for the time being while it's cheaper. If I had a source of free or very cheap wvo I'd use it.
