new oil can go straight in but i have herd that 200's have a problem with a rubber seal in the injector pump not liking veg oil (it starts to leak at front ). i find at 50% mix and above you can notice the difference thats why i do 3 gal veg to 4 gal diesel . (4to 4 would be 50% )i recon if the engine does not notice then it's ok !

na 300 goes ok but have read in magazines that earlier pumps that were fitted to 200 had rubber seal made from different compound and veg oil slowly dissolves it. later pumps as fitted to 300 have more modern compound seal.

Using Veg oil looking better and better !! Greedy garages putting prices up again even though cost of a barrel has gone down 5% over last month, According to tv this morning. AA guy says " it's gong up to help poor struggling small garages" Bollocks! !! My local 'small garage' owner drives brand new Merc and is ****ing himself all the way to the bank.
I'm filling up with veg oil @ 80p a litre from local supermarket, buying as much as possible, as diesel going up & up.
Been running on oil for last 3 months , keeping a record of usage just in case (personal allowance is 2499 litres, then you would have to pay tax on all oil used) me and wife both use Disco so thats 4998 litres a year, nearly 104 litres a week.
Had no probs !!got spare filters and pump just in case.
We're on limited budget so every penny counts.

er no its not,

a few points,

its not a personal allowance, its a production limit.
buying veg and using it as a road fuel is classed as production.
the limit is per premises so unless you live apart its 2500L per premises per rolling 12 months.
google "HMRC 179e" for the rules and check the veg forum in my sig for everything veg/bio related.

Running on neat veg oil will knacker your injection pump. 50/50 veg/diesel summer. 40/60 veg/diesel winter. If you want an impression of what the inside of your injection pump will look like running neat vegi oil, look at your chip pan if you never clean it.

unless you use your injection pump to fry chips in it won't knacker it, millions of miles have been done on bosch ip's and the only thing that fails are the seals, they can be changed for the cost of a tank full of fuel that you are not buying anymore.

now there may be issues with ring gumming on a DI engine but that can also be overcome with blending with diesel or fitting a water injection system to give it a bit of a steam clean.

My bio costs 15p per litre-all in including power and chemicals, but not my time-you do the maths.I passed break even point over the TD5 purchase price sometime last autumn.

2.4 What are my obligations?

If you produce 2,500 litres or more biofuels a year, or use 2,500 litres or more of biofuels as motor fuel on which duty has not been paid, you will need to contact us so that we can make arrangements for you to account for the excise duty due on any products set aside, or delivered for use, as a motor fuel.

You will need to do the following:
No. Action
1. ‘Make entry’ of your premises (in other words, register with HMRC as a producer and/or user of biofuels).
2. Keep records relating to the production and trade in biofuels.
3. Issue detailed delivery notes for each supply of biofuels.
4. Complete and send returns to HMRC showing the excise duty due for the return period (for example, 1 June to 30 June).
5. Pay the excise duty due (see paragraph 4.4).

2.6 Producing biofuels and/or fuel substitutes on your registered (entered) premises

You only need to enter your premises once for all your production of biofuels and/or fuel substitutes. However, if you change premises, add more premises or change the type of fuel that you produce, you must notify us at the address in paragraph 2.5 above.

4.2.3 Producers sharing premises and equipment

Regulation 8A of the Biofuels and Other Fuel Substitutes (Payment of Excise Duties etc) (Amendment) Regulations 2007 (SI 1234 of 2007) which came into force on 30 June 2007, has a condition that separate producers at the same premises or sets of premises must register and account for duty if the total of that production is 2,500 litres or more a year. The threshold does not apply separately to each individual producer at the same premises - or sets of premises. The producer(s) must register if total annual production at the same premises or sets of premises is 2,500 litres or more.

Partnerships, collectives and cooperatives (including non-profit making organisations) are liable to register and account for duty if total annual production is 2,500 litres or more.

Can a td5 run on veg oil ? I'm very interested if it can be? What's the best mix for this? May consider bio aswell and purchasing a producer as I'm sure it would pay for itself in quite a short period of time? :)

I run my TD5 on 100% bio,and have done for the last two years, without issue.BUT I make sure my fuel is to the highest quality. Some say bio is no good for TD5's,but this has not been my experience. The cost savings for me have effectively paid for my TD5 purchase price, and is cheap motoring up to the 2500Lt allowance in any 12 month period.Last weekend I ran to Milton Keynes and back....50 Lts at £0.15= £7.50...~280 miles
I would not attempt to run my TD5 on veg oil neat or a blend-just too viscous imo.
