I know we are all paranoid about our VCU, and I am sometimes concerned that the braking effect on full lock is too much. But how much is too much? Could we come up with a test for this? I am thinking of something like finding an empty car park and driving at 5mph (or whatever) on full lock then dipping the clutch and seeing how many seconds it takes to come to a halt? Or would this itself be a damaging test as it deliberately winds up the transmission?

And everyone talks about tyre castellation but I am still not really sure what this means. I gather it is uneven tread block wear, but what exactly should I look for. Is it alternate blocks on the inner/outer shoulder having different heights. Anyone have a good description or a photo? And can anyone explain how this condition develops?
