Oh well, this must be my moan for the month.

After my problems with waterpumps and lump, coughing etc had gone away...all ok until this week....wouldn't start right away..and started coughing again. then thursday, wouldnt start at all.

until the AA man turned up..bloody thing started for him didnt it..
looked a fool and still no idea why it didnt start.

so while we were looking for the cause which we didn't find..
during his general appraisal of everything he noticed the reardiff was dripping a bit from the front oil seal.

sa after AAman goes and i go to local garage while i'm getting the diffseal sorted out the mech says
'your VCU has seized too..do you know ?'
'bummer' says I. 'has it' and sure enough it does appear to be pretty solid..tippex test failed. though i hadn't noticed any of the usual symptoms.

anyway...
Recon LR unit from bell engineering £200 (including damper plate) 12mon warranty
ebay LR recon unit £205 (think its bell engineering again)

or ashcrofts 370 new unit..but is it LR or their own.

what do you guys reckon for the recon units.

secondly, had the propshafts drop out today..the mechanic in my local was reluctant to remove the support bearings. do they come off and go back on the VCU shafts easy like.

or should i replace them too.
(they go round ok, they dont spin freely, but not gritty either.)

thanks..
rich.
