Time will tell. My dad's buying it so it's his money not mine. I have pre warned him and had a look at a couple of buyers guides. I'll let you all know!! The bloke we are buying it from sounded very posh on the phone!!

What would indicate a dead block? Pressurised water? And overheating?
Yep, similar to head gasket but persisting after replacement. Sometimes the liners slip and you get a ticking noise.
Let's hope it does not happen.
Best thing you should buy next is diagnostics. Nanocom is the only way to go expensive but worth every single penny and more.

Well that one is upto my dad. The chap at the local garage is well into his old land rovers so will probably have one. I'll advise him to get one. Would they be any use to my 97 disco 1? Or my 51 plate freelander?

With nanocom, you buy it with a license and lead to suit, for example, a thor petrol range rover but for a small extra charge you can buy the licenses for other vehicles it covers. I know it covers some of the discos but not certain which.
Have a look on the blackbox solutions website.
