Hi All,

Just managed to get my dead starter off and compared it with the new Denso starter from Island 4x4 to find that it's about an inch shorter.

The business end looks ok, but the part numbers are completely different. The Denso one has 26801 and DSN002 on it which doesn't match anything in the listing on Island's web site (Starter Motor V8 (Denso) RTC6061NG Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.)

Anyone had one of these from Island 4x4 and/or know if it will be ok?

New starter motors of the geared variety do seem to be smaller, the new one for my digger was a good inch shorter than the original but actually spins the engine faster than the original ever did.

I tried the lookup tool on their website but they don't have a starter listed for the P38.

Anyway, sounds like it's the right unit so thanks all.

Look up the numbers listed on Rimmers site. You will be guided to after market or refurbished units. Part numbers on new starter are Denso numbers. The one you got is a direct replacement for ALL the numbers shown.

As a follow up to this, the shorter length of this particular starter means that it is much easier to fit, removing the need to use multiple socket extension bars running behind the engine mount for the top bolt.
