Right, I'm after a 90 pref a pickup,

but gotta sell me car furst. So won't be till after Xmas, as with imminent snow (my prediction) I don't recon I'm guna sell a rear wheel drive sports car this time of yr. and trust me, from experience a BMW in the snow............ Well yous might aswell stay at home.
Hopefully will sell that in time to buy one b4 Salisbury in march

Tdi better in water and on fuel,
But the sound of a v8 makes me go weak at the knees?....
And is quieter
And sounds better


But then agen I do already have a V8

Any other + & - points to consider?

as has been said many times, if done right a v8 can go in the water, and a v8 running on gas can cost the same to run per mile as a 300tdi, so with this in mind i would go for the v8 spend a little money preparing for water get a gas conversion and enjoy.
 
A standard V8 doesn't actually sound that great though and if its a factory 3.5 V8 then you are only talking 187lb ft and 137hp if it's in good order. The low CR makes it more costly to get good power from too.

MPG is dismal, 17-19mpg tops on a run, but 12-15mpg more likely. LPG is fine, but if it's not fitted budget a couple of grand to get it fitted and working. But you'll likely lose a bit of performance and you'll need to put the tank somewhere.

Factory V8's also come with the LT-85 gearbox, which are normally noisy and make an LT-77 feel like a slick shifting racing gearbox by comparison.

But it's all swings and round abouts really.

They do feel very different to drive off road, a V8 has plenty of power but you have to push the pedal harder and further to release it, a good Tdi or a tweaked one will have all the power at the top of the throttle pedal, so a small movement of your foot makes it move well.
 
If its only to get muddy and you already have a V8.... go for tdi.

no matter what you do, you'll always get problems in the water, unless you spend some serious money...

tdi engine.. bit of B&Q pipe and you can play in the water all day.
 
If yer gonna use it just for playing, fuel consumption is sort of irrelevant.
I use mine as my commute, social and playing so I have 200tdi, which is more economical for day to day driving, if I had a v8 id cry every Friday when I had to fill up, instead I only wince slightly:D
I actually love the sound of me tdi, so I am happy and if I want to listen to a v8 I go on youtube:D
 
There is no petrol pumps sites off road so go for a TDI and as already said if its a 3.5 they are roughly the same power.
TDI is more realiable too.
 
TDI all day long, I know people trawl the 'a v8 on gas is the same cost to run' but its not when you consider a tdi will run on WVO.

I have run for years on it and am currently paying 50p a litre and doing approx 2000 miles a month at a fraction of the cost of a V8 on petrol or gas, and with plenty of heavy duty underlay to soundproof its not that bad a place to be.

Never any issues in water and the only electrical bit that will stop it running is power faliure to the stop solenoid..... no points, no plugs, no damp dizzy's, dodgy coils, failed condensors etc etc

no need for B&Q's entire stock of silicon to seal leads and dizzy, no Heath robinson drinks bottle over the dizzy...

My V8 hardly ever had a problem in water and shocked a few people in Billings lakes and mud run but it took a damn site more effort than my current TDI and wasn't as reliable, other than oils / filters and a cam belt Ive not had to touch the TDI in 2 years.

Good stuff. Cheers for the advice. I'm thinking a tdi is the way to go. As you say, ther arnt any petrol stations off road. I think most of the time it will be towed to wherever I'm going unless local. Need to start saving. And sell my BMW.

On that note. Does anyone fancy a BMW 325ti compact MSport? Fantastic car and goes like **** off a stick. Wish I didn't have to sell it. But it doesn't really get used very much so has to go!
