I have just bought a 4 litre p38 se on the m (1995) this is now my 3rd p38 and love them.
My range rover idles too low. i have changed plugs, and leads.
i now need to pick the idle up as this did make it run better but idle still low. i do not want to raise the idle by adjusting the throttle cable.
i have been told that the idle screw is an allen key on the top of the engine bit (the bit that says 4.0 and has the blck lines not sure what to call it) i have found this allen screw but i am unsure which way to turn it. either way does not make much difference, unless is all the way in or all the way out, any suggestions??????????????

That screw is an air screw and gives more or less air at idle. It may need a good dose of carb cleaner to clean it all out. Cant do any harm, get a full tin sprayed down the inlet with the filter off and engine running or you can strip it and clean that way.
