hi i have a 95 3.9 v8i just bought when driving the bonnet gets very hot i could fry an egg off it i know its a big engine but the temp gauge is telling me its fine its at half way but ive just overcooked some bird poo is there anything i can do to get the bonnet a bit cooler many thanks

They are hot mate!

Running normally, my temp gauge is just under half way up. However, if you open the bonnet after it's been running a while, you will burn your face easily if you poke your head in to far :D

Might be a combination of the engine and the exhaust manifolds too which get very hot too.

If the temp gets too hot, the fan will kick in on the radiator, so as long as it's happy most of the time, I wouldn't try to cool it by any other means. It could cause other problems running below normal temp.

As you say, I wouldn't be suprised if you could fry an egg off it. Just keep the bonnet clean from crap so it's not superheated on :)

Do you still have the flameproof material lining the underside of the bonnet?

no i havent would like to know where to get it from i didnt no wot it was called i presume main dealer

The engine will run cooler with it off, its not fire proof anyway, its only sound deadning.

With regards to your first post, yes they get very hot. I have a rover V8 in a cortina and it gets roasting under the bonnet.
