Hi guys,

Im currently in the process of building a 90 tray back challenge truck. Im putting a 4.6 rover v8 out of a rangie in it :D In order to protect the fuel tank and not waste time with tank guards etc ive moved the fuel take to behind the rear hoop of the roll cage between the chassis rails. As it is the fuel take doesnt have a internal pump in it unlike the range rover tanks I am planning to fit an external fuel pump but after hours of googling havnt had much luck.:confused:

What i want to know is what spec fuel pump will i need for this engine? i.e. high pressure? low pressure? swirl pot? etc etc. Need ideas as am a bit stumped. not to keen on using an internal pump as want to be able to get to it easily. Also fitting megasquirt to the engine if that makes a difference?

cheers for any help!!

ok. so id just have to attach one end to a pipe going into the tank and the other to the fuel filter?

also while we are on here any one know the internal diameter for the air intake pipe for a 4.6? would go and measure but the truck is about 44miles away and wanna get a load of things ordered before trecking over to do some work on it. Nothing more disheartening that driving 44 miles each way to spend 1/2 ur day working out what bits you actually need! :p

Iv just used the standerd top and lower efi high presure pump from and range rover classic all fits in the tank works a treat recommended by nige from mega squirt

no.tdi no..yous are wrong..the puel pump needs to be more than pressure needed..you need a proper efi pump..most aftermarket types will work though

you wants a bosch idealy cos they are good..3 bar + type..the fuel pressure regulator sorts out the correct pressure required..

look on burton performance web site for a good listing of external pumps..then prehaps ebay to buy??(cheaper)

so in theory if i had pipe to tank --> filter ---> a pump like this --> pressure regulator --> engine then there shouldnt be a problem? sorry if im being incredibly stupid.

thats the idea..but bare/bear/bair in mind the inlet diameter of pump..its no good being 12mm if your outlet from tank and filter is 8mm..

yer well need to get filter and stuff any way. just got to match tank and engine. whats the minimum diameter needed for the pipe? 8mm be enough?

well..if the outlet from tank is 8mm then thats the min you want to go...but most efi pumps run large inlet..but that just causes grief..now beware external pumps are loud!!
intank is better, no inlet restrictions and no noise..having said that i am about to mount external pump, but will be using the facet 10psi to pump to swirl pot and mounting efi pump in engine bay..
reason i doing that is however intank pump type tank dont fit in my rrc..if it did i would fit intank type..

actually for your use consider pump with threaded inlet and outlet, that way you can chose/chews/oh my spelling! fitting to suit your requirements..ie pipe!
