New problem, new thread. :D

Does the ECU take back pressure in the exhaust in to consideration somehow? This is what a friend told me. I was planning to de-cat and I also need a new back box as I just discovered today. I can't simply go out and buy one, will have to get one hand made. I know a guy who knows a guy who does just that. He's great at tuning them for sound too but I doubt he's thought about how much pressure or resistance there should be - if at all.

My friend however tells me if I do this I will have running problems, esp if not enough back pressure! So how do people off-road these V8s then? Don't some just bin the silencers and cats entirely? How do they (you) run?

No not that im aware of, less back preasure the better for performance, wont have any back preasure at low part throttle (low load). Newer diesles look at preasure differance across the particulate filter.

The lamdas are before the cats so decating wont affect them. Thing is unless its lpg then you may have a problem on the mot emision test.

Don't the GEMs and THOR engines have 4 lambda sensors, one each side of the pair of cats??
So will a decat then cause an imbalance between those sensors and throw the ECU way out of kilter into parameters for which its software was never designed to allow for??
Just a thought..........:)

Should still run ok but will get a light on dash and a fault code telling you your cats are buggered.
