Hi,
Advise please
I have a 1999 Discovery v8 and the boss on the crank pulley has broken The garage says they did not find all the bits and say they could have fallen into the sump.
Is this possible as the bit would have to go through the oil pump.
Any thoughts or advise would be welcome.
Andy..

It won't block up your oil system, as the oil pick up in the sump has a wire gauze strainer on it to prevent this very thing. It'll be fine, just when you drain the oil next take the sump off and empty all the bits of metal and crap in it.

So are you saying it is possible for the broken piece to fall into the sump by going through the oil pump?

Why is the crank pulley connected to the oil pump.

If there are bits in the timing casing then it would worry me, or if there is a mesh over the sump to prevent splash from the crank then also since the bits could be laying on it close to the crank.

Get a diagram of the engine and look to see where the bits are.
