V8 engine conversion?

OK I have a bobtail discovery 1 with a full cage internal and external, thjs can't really be removed so I am thinking of changing the current 300tdi engine for a v8. Has anyone ever done this? If so what's involved and what exactly would I need off a donor discovery to make it all fit and work correctly?

Yes you can. But what do you want to achieve?

The 300Tdi is a pretty good motor. Unless you are comping it, a V8 won't really offer much off road above what it can do now.

As for which bits, it really depends on what your final setup is likely to be. The easiest way would probably be to buy a donor Disco V8 and simply move all the bits over.

Although I forget if the engine mounts are different or not.

Failing that you could just buy an engine. But then you'll need to decide on EFI or carb, ignition, if you want to run an ECU, what you are doing about the exhaust routing etc, etc.
