Hello,

I've recently brought a V8 Discovery 2!

First thing I've recently noticed is the top radiator hose gets very hot and the bottom one doesn't get hot what so ever, am I right in saying thermostat needs changing?

It doesn't over heat and it doesn't use any water. The heaters inside the car are also still coming out hot.

It had been sat for a while and the coolant had been changed whilst having an oil service.

Any suggestions would be great!

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum!!!!! I would say don't drive it untill you get it sorted, the V8's need the cooling system to be in tip top condition otherwise you run the risk of cooking your heads. If it's be stood for a while it could be the rad is blocked with silt and rubbish or the baffle has gone (assuming its the same rad as a V8 p38). As your going to have to drain the system anyway you might aswell do the thermostat at the same time. Try a flush and reverse flush and see what comes out.

Hello!

I've replaced the thermostat, flushed the rad out and re bled the whole system.
Everything works perfectly fine.

By the way the set up is done on the V8 the hot water goes threw the top of the rad, threw the rad to the thermostat, the other side of the top rad hose goes to the other end of the thermostat which opens it to allow the cool water threw, therefore the bottom rad hose wouldn't be as hot as the top. Sending cooler coolant threw the engine?
