Hi All,
Friend of mine has replaced his matrix o-rings (hero..!) and various cooling items and has asked me, over the phone, if there is a procedure for filling and bleeding the coolant system. I know there is a bleed valve on the Doozel, but is there anything special about the 4.6 Thor engine filling.?
Had a good search around but can't find anything mentioned.

its all in rave but..
disconnect the bleed return from the top of the radiator to make sure its clear.
fill slowly, once the expansion tank gets full, put your finger over the bleed return hole in the filler neck and give the top hose a few good squeezes, then fill more, rinse, repeat until its full
run engine with the cap off until the thermostat opens, refill as needed, should be good to go

Take the overflow pipe off the radiator, fill the header tank then squeeze the top hose and plug the overflow with a finger when releasing the hose so it sucks coolant in and blows air out when you squeeze the hose. Keep doing that until coolant comes out of the overflow (it'll take a while and you'll need to top the header up a few times). Then put the pipe back on and carry on only this time plug the hole in the top of the header where the jet of coolant comes back into the header. Eventually, you'll no longer be able to hear bubbles in the system and at that point you know you've got the air out.

Helps on the diesel if the car is nose up, I suspect it may also help on the V8.

+1.

Sometimes it can be a bit of a sod. If you lift the bonnet with the cap off the expansion tank you can rev it to 2000 rpm and look through the crack under the bonnet and if the coolant drops, pop out and top it up. Should be stable after about 5 minutes.
