Hi Guys I'm normally in the series and defender section but I've just purchased a 1983 3.5 V8 Carb Range rover and I was thinking of removing the centre silencer for a bit more throaty V8 sound, is there someone who makes a straight through pipe to replace the mid box ? Is it with it ? Has anyone done it ? Ideally I want it so it could be reversed back to standard, I've looked on the web but there's not much info. Thanks all

Can't help with where you might get it from but you might find it a bit noisier than you would like if you intend to use it as the daily drive/family transport.
I fitted a stainless steel sports system with tubular manifolds to my '86 3.5EFi years ago.
Sounds very nice, but the noise level gets a bit wearing on long journeys - so much so that I have considered replacing it with a normal size one in s/s

Thank you that I did wonder if it would start to be a bit loud ?

You could try making one up but I think you'll need a triangular flange for the connection to the front pipe, a short length with a bell to fit the flange & match up with the olive in the joint, a length of flex to line things up & a flared length to fit over and clamp onto the rear exhaust section.
(I'm assuming that you're not got twin pipes from the centre box to the rear!)

If you can weld & have got the kit it would be pretty straightforward.
An old centre box to scavenge for parts would make it even easier as the in & out pipes are usually fine & it's just the box that rots out.

Likely you'll find a lot of the bits on ebay - I needed to replace one of the flanges on mine when it rusted away. Bit of a job as I had to cut the new one (I bought a stainless one) to fit onto the pipe & then weld it back together again. Turns out the various clamps etc on the system were mild steel, not stainless.

My 101 has no centre box and has a very simple stock system twin pipe from manifolds joins together and then straight down to box at rear not loud at all...any good exhaust place can make up a section of pipe...got it done for my Fiat Seicento...

You'll get a better sound if you just remove the rear/resonator box & substitute a section of pipe, although that can foul the underside of the rear bumper (or it does on the EFI) always assuming that 'box hasn't fallen off already, lacking as it does a rear support
