v8 auto box temperature

hi all, drivin along today all fine, when I got home, and pulled on to the drive,when all of a sudden the teperature light for the auto box came on!!!

so I let it cool down and then took it for a spin round the block, it was fine to start with, then by the time I got home it was back on again!!!

any suggestions??, could it be the oil in the box is shagged and its getting hot?, or could it be a faulty temperature sensor??

is it a common problem??

Usually its a faulty sensor, its mounted on the oil cooler under the radiator, bit fiddly to get to if you have air con as the condenser is in the way.

ATF should be changed every 24,000 miles or sooner if towing, if it smells burnt, change it.
