Hi there,

Does anyone know if there is a difference on the V5 between a soft top and a full hard top? looking to change a vehicle from hard to soft top and want to make sure I do not fall foul of Big Brother.

Thanks for any help

Cheers

The V5 should just say Light Utility 4X4 with no mention of hard or soft top. Last year my 109 was a Hardtop without back windows, a Hardtop with back windows, a Pickup and a soft top depending on what I was using it for. I also had bench seats fitted in the back and insured it as a 7 seater.

Wow, Thanks Martin,

A very eclectic mix on your 109, soundsl like you have been having fun,

Good news , sounds like I do not have any problems with modifying the landy and having to go thru the hassle of telling the dvla. just got to keep the dreaded Insurance up to date if changes are made.

Cheers

I asked the DVLA about this when I converted to a full soft top, they said there was no need to make any changes and again with the bikini top, despite it effectively becoming a pick-up.

If you go down the route of using an ex-mod roll bar, tell your insurance that it is a seatbelt mounting bar rather than a structural roll bar. The NFU asked me for an engineers report when I said it was a roll bar, but no engineer would give me a report because the bar was only mounted to the tub and therefore was unlikely to protect the passengers during a roll. ;)
