hi people, im in need of some help. My dse hasnt run properly since i bought it a coup'e of months back. The main problem is lack of power. I have replaced the in tank fuel pump which wasnt working, no change. Replaced burnt out starter motor and fitted hot start fix, no change. When driving along now the car has started to accelerate on its own and then cut out with the management light on. It takes a lot of ignition on and offs yo vlear the light. Whilst the light is on it will not start. Now when it cuts out it says gearbox fault on dash and is now dangerous to drive as it keeps accelerating on its own. Initially the problem did seem like fuel starvation when i needed power but now it is overfuelling alot. What are peoples thoughts? I need to get home 70 miles on sunday. Map sensor? Gearbox? A ll hoses seem ok

You will really have to get the diagnostics on this. Engine speed is controlled electronicly. You press the throttle pedal to a certain position and the ECU from signals recieved from the throttle position sensor, crank position sensor and number four injector, adjusts fueling to achieve that engine speed, by controlling the quantity of fuel injected via the quantity selonoid in the FIP. This lengthens or shortens the pump piston stroke as required. Engine speed is controlled by fueling and not by a butterfly valve. If the engine is reving on it's own it would suggest a malfunction in the, Throttle sensor, crank position sensor, number four injector and fuel quantity selonoid in the FIP loop. You could play with this for a long time and not find the answer. You could try checking and cleaning all the plug connections to these components and see what you get. But a diagnostic check will i think be your best way forwards. Have not got a clue why it should say gearbox fault.

Gearbox warning lights often come on due to battery or alternator problems so could this be due to too much voltage coming out of the alternator? Perhaps something breaking down / misbehaving in the regulator part causing voltage fluctuations and therefore erroneous signals into the ECU? It's a longshot I know but easily checked with an analogue meter or a good digital multimeter (cheaper digital multimeters are quite often very slow to react and don't always pick up fluctuations).

"erroneous"now what the foook does that mean:eek:

thankyou for the replies. Looks like a trip back on the back of the rac recovery truck again for the 3rd time in a month.

typical! Just had the rac out and he doesnt have the 2.5dse listed on his diagnostics. Car wont start at all now. Is it always the case that it wont start with the engine management light on? Im gutted now as i was hoping his diagnostics would tell me what is wrong. Now waiting for a recovery truck to take me home. Does anyone know any mobile diagnostics company around the basingstoke/newbury/reading area?
