UPrated head gasket

does anyone know to to up rated head gasket for 4.6 p38 i had to have 30 thou skim so wondered if anyone made a gasket to compensate,or does anyone know the clearance to top of pistons ,i think im right in thinking that 30 thou skim is going to take the valves 30 thou closer to pistons..any advice gratefully taken

Yes, the valves are now 30 thou closer to the pistons, if your worried you could always have the valve recesses in the pistons tops machined out 30 thou deeper.

Or you could measure the gap with Plastigauge but this involves assembling the engine and then stripping it

theres a fair bit more room in v8s as compared to modern diesel,in the combution chamber of head is a little cast lug you measure distance to head face after skimming to ensure its still within limits ,whoever skimmed it should have checked,but you would have to take alot of to get valves hitting pistons,if it was a diesel where clearance is more critical different thickness head gaskets are available

yes ive found the lug you mentioned ..now need unskimmed head to measure clearance...unless some out there can do it...main worry was if heads had been skimmed before,anyway im off in search of vernier...thank you for reply
