Hi All
I am in the process of upgrading the instruments on my 90 from standard to TD5 type. I have all the bits except for the fuel tank sender and cable to the gauge.
I have been looking everywhere i can think of but cannot get a definitive answer as to whether i need to change the current sender and if so what type to use. Most of the "TD5" type senders have fuel pumps fitted and i am not sure whether these ( or any others ) will fit the tank and give accurate readings etc.
Can anyone who has done this upgrade help please.
Thanks
Kev

I would have thought you should be able to use the original sender as they both essentially work in the same way, a td5 sender if you could fit it would be more accurate than the original sender but it would just mean removing or just ignoring the pump wiring. I'm fitting a td5 tank to my 200 so I'm just not adding in the wiring for the pump

I'm using the original 300TDi sender and my TD5 gauge works perfectly....

Leave the sender alone and just connect it's sense wire to the back of the TD5 speedo then the output to the TD5 fuel gauge. You can ignore the low fuel warning light wire from the sender as the TD5 speedo calculates low fuel based on the sender's readings.

This is definitive, it's working on mine!

Agreed I'm running td5 gauges in my 300 and ran it low to the red increment and it was all ok
Readings were just the same as my Tdi gauge but with less wavering of the pointer
Stick with that standard sender
