Just sold my much loved 300tdi and am after something a bit fresher to tow the horse, go to work and do Tesco in.

So was thinking of an 05 Hardtop, have seen one for about £13,800 with 1 mnth warranty and 30k miles.

Does this sound about right??? Has a couple of seats in the back but ad says no vat.

I've also had a couple of TD5 Discos, one of which I had to replace the head gasket on so am a bit wary there too.

Any thoughts welcome

i month warranty is practically worthless in my opion

offer them 11k with a 6 month warranty and find out what the warranty covers, or more to the point what it doesn't cover::D

I hear what you're saying about the definition of "upgrade" but for general road driving with the odd horsebox drag through a muddy field the TD5 is a much nicer sounding and refined engine... appreciate the head gasket reliability worries!!!

A bit more info. The car is a private sale, it was registered in Mar 05 so the warranty is manufacturers. After that date no cover. We really want a 90 County but they are not about for less than £14.5k generally and the age and mileage we are after are quite rare.

How can you justify saying its only worth £10.5k when that sort of money buys you no where near as new or as nice a mileage car than the one we are looking at. IMO (as big a Landy fan I am) the price of Defenders (both new and second hand) is extortionate.

Treworgey, Find me an 05 Defender in great nick with FSH and less than 35k miles for less than £11k and I'll pay you a hefty commission. Bet you can't find one...... prove to me your humble opinion is realistic and not based on dreamworld fantasy!!!!!

If its a hard top , it sounds like the seller is trying to cover the cost of the vat that may have been paid, and not recovered in the price.

As regards the 1's trewy found, thems are around the prices you want to be payin.
I'm gessin the first 1 aint quite what your lookin for .
The second is plus vat, if ya can get vat back not a major prob.
3rd 1 is reasonable money, if its right. still a bit of warranty, and probly would be sold by now if it were a proper culla.

very difficult to value deafeners imo, and i think its hard to find accurate valuations anywhere.
Landy mags, look how they value em. sumatt like 5k- 20 odd for a td5??.

Fair play Treg.......

A few points:

1. Sadly, this will be a private vehicle so we have to pay the VAT. That is a no no.
2. Ideally we want a county pack, nice alloys etc... not like number 2
3. Last one seems a bit more like it but once we have fitted tow bar and electrics, chucked some seats in the back and considered having the rear windows fitted best add about £1500 to that price....

To be fair to ya, all of the searches we did on Autotrader started at a minimum of £12k...... didn't think to look lower than that!!! No full county's there though....

Yes it is ridikularse. And proves how well these hold the value. old and newer.
i wud say there is vat content in that price, at around just over 2k. Makin it look worse.
This puts the landy at around 11.5k, which could be a bit more realistic if its bang on. thats the askin price though, not the barterd 1.

If we were to change our 05 90, I would like to think the value around 11- 12 + vat.
A possibility to a vat reg'd chap lookin for a top defner.

Yes, yo can get a new defsit for around 16k, but it will be plus the dreaded and it wunt be county pack.
