my kit came with a mounting bracket that the straps were then fitted
to which hold the tank in place. Batteries move to inside, near where
the attendants seat used to be. Hoping to update my website over the
weekend, will let you know once its done!

I'm hoping to use the spare wheel well doors to put the origonal tray slides
in to and mount the batteries there making them accessable from outside
still rather than inside. I'm also a little concerned about cooking the
battery above the gearbox but that said it shouldn't be any hotter than an
engine bay there anyway. H'mm choices choices!

I'll have no such accusations made here!

;-)

Yeah that'll be the stuff... normally I hate it with a passion but on this
occasion I found it really useful.

Yep thats what I was figuring on. I've just not got it spare at the mo and
greater needs on other projects both time and finacially wise that need
sorting ASAP.

It's firmly on my list though but realistically may be next spring given the
needs of the many.

Squeaking of which, did anyone from here do the Macmillan? We were
marshalling the off-road section at Wood Park in W Wales. Met lots of folk,
but not long enough to establish names etc.

Some folks here HAVE done it, but decided not to do it again because of
the stupid mileages expected, the lack of rest, and shortage of marshalls.

You coming on the 3C as well ? I'll get me tow rope....

Yes, I followed the conversation about this last year. I only agreed to
marshal because I knew the guy organising the section was 100% belt and
braces safety-conscious.

Doubt it - I hadn't heard about it until today. Unlikely to have the time,
unfortunately.

No need. I won't be going near THAT patch of mud again.

They've made 40,000 quid, for the expenditure of 50,000 miles of driving
(nominally 1000 miles rally ?, 50 vehicles)and, assuming say 25 to the
gallon, getting well on for 10,000 quid in fuel, plus another 5 grand in
entrants fees, it doesn't seem like a good return to me.

hmm. the bracket in my car is just a square with bands that loop over
the tank. It is mounted the normal way up though (tank above bracket).

The guy at the gas place said that the 101 was a more complex install
than the car as when hes done them before he's built a frame for the
tank, and he seems to know his stuff.

This made sense to me as i'd prefer a frame holding my tank up than it
just hanging off 2 or 3 small straps - especially if i was doing any
rough stuff in the 101!

My batteries are going in the spare wheel hole too. Probably not in
the drawers though, though its almost tempting to reuse them.

The battery in my car used to sit 2 or 3 inches away from the turbo in
a hot engine bay and that never melted! should be fine near the 101
gearbox!

still pratting around with it, pulls to over 75, and still wanting to
keep going, which is scary, very scary. I'm also now suffering from
deafness! Need to tweak the setting so it guzzles a little less gas
as I have plenty of power but no economy....

I filled up today and found I have achieved the cracking sum of 7mpg,
but that has included lots of dicking around setting up and tweaking
it.

no, standard. Was on way to Club RTV today, and left everyone behind
at one point, A Disco set off in pursuit and reckoned his speedo was
showing over 70 to keep up with me....

twas very noisy, and wouldn't recommend it even with Petlas!
