Hi again and thanks for all the advise so far. Ok the car isnt as bad as it was. What happens now is:I put in the key code at the drivers door and it will start. I can leave it for 20 mins ish and the car will still start but if I leave it any longer I have to pt the key code in again. The key fob is not programed to the car yet as I am afraid if I start playing about with that it will cause more problems. Do I put the key code in first? Then try and sync the key fob, or is it the other way around? I can only guess its not holding the code but I dont know where or what stores the code. It must be that part thats faulty. Or are the key fob sync and the key code part of the same thing:doh::confused: I dont have a clue!! But like I said before I have a complete RR exactly the same as mine with a dead engine so spare bits and pieces I can swap around. But what bits do I swap?? Thanks again to any one that can help.... Its a1995 RR 4.6 HSE

The BECM automatically disables the engine after there is no activity for a period of time so I think your car is behaving normally. At least that is what is tells me in my handbook.
I suggest you download RAVE and read the owners manual, if you have not got the owners manual, it's with RAVE.

If you start swapping bits like the BECM you will just end up in more trouble.:eek::eek:

Thanks, Im not so sure that the BECM is faulty but the car still needs the code each time. Its ok to do it but its not right and Im waiting for it to go wrong completly. So here is exactly what happens.
1. I go to the car open it with the key (not by remote)
2. I Always try and start it first but the Engine Disabled shows on the display.
3. I then close the drivers door and put in the code and it starts and drives normally.
4. I can turn it off and lock it for twenty mins ish then its still ok.
5. any more than this I have to put the code in again.

The part/sensor/whatever it is that holds/remembers the code must be faulty. The thing is I dont know what part that is. If it is the BECM is there anyway of programing my spare one? The car can only be opened with the key as I cant program the fob to the car. Maybe this is pasrt of the same problem?? I dont know. Has anyone else had this before? Thanks again..
