My temp gauge has been unresponsive since I had an engine change, so I'm assuming the bloke forgot to connect it.

There's a loose green wire with a spade socket on the end on the near-side of the engine, is that it?

I've looked in the Haines manual but can't see where that should be connected to...

other than connecting it and trying! which could pop something, i would suggest testing to see if the connection is live, a simple bulb with one connection on earth should do the trick.

if it is live. through a resistor, like an unused fuel sender unit, connect and vary the resistance, if the connector is for temp, then the guage should move, if not, run a new circuit, follow the diagrams and it should be simple.

this is of course if you have the time, if not take it to a garage or auto sparks, who will most likely connect it anyway lol

hope i have helped

the free green wire with spade terminal by the front of the engine is a spare temp wire ( for different engine ) , what you might find is that the wire has broken down the back of the block . you could do a continuity test between the engine harness plug and the end of the temp sender wires .
