So, how do I get under the seats in my Defender Puma - there is an over centre clip at the front of the box, but I can't actually open anything?

Whats in there on either side - is there space for a second battery, split charger and a night heater the other side?

Jon

They sometimes stick if they have not been moved for a long time, waggle the cover side to side as you pull it forward, you may have to get a screwdriver under the lip at the back to force it forward or round the edges to part the seal, drivers side has ECU and relays etc passenger side has your battery and tools in there,

Pull your seat base up at the front and forward to remove it, to replace the seat base locate the two lugs at the back into the holes then press down to click it in place, if you have heated seats be careful of the cable and connector as you lift it out of the way, then remove the cover by lifting the latch clip and pull the cover forward.
The metel seat base fixing is not removed just the seat base cushion.

Don’t the seat squabs just pull upwards with a good tug under the front? A
That should be it, Pull the front of the seat firmly upwards and the base will come out. you should then have a flap in the seat box cover trim to allow access to the metal cover held in place by the centre clip you mention.

In an older models the passenger side contains the battery (it is possible to fit two in there but it is a tight fit) and the drivers side is a nice empty space to fill with tool sand spares. On a td5 (as new as I am familiar with) the drivers side is full of electrical magic, which is unnecessary if you have a proper mechanical engine, like more fuses and the ecu etc. I would guess the even newer puma you have will be similar with the space used for electrics rather than just being a large empty space you can use for other things.

The right-hand seatbox contains electrical systems. On a 2.4 there is a small fusebox (same one as a td5) and a couple of relays. On the 2.2 there is a much larger fuse/relay board. In either case, not really any space to put things.

The battery will be under the left seat, along with the wheel changing tools and a bit of empty space.
