Hello Again..

Whilst changing the sump gasket yesterday I decided to give the UJ's a bit of an inspection. One of the UJ's on the front prop does have a little play in it. So I have decided to replace it, but while I'm at it I may as well change all the UJ's on both props.
Now I have been looking at the Paddocks site "Spares UJ's" and I'm not sure which to order. One spare did come with the Landy "RTC3346" but I'm not sure which prop this was for. The Paddocks site seems to show two types with a slightly different suffix on the part number.
Could some one point me in the right direction... ? Yea I know I could probably ring them and ask tomorrow but you know how it is.. Want to get it ordered ASAP so I can fix her..:)
My landy is Defender 90, 2.5 turbo D engine on an F plate...

You want RTC3291, which is the smaller of the two types available.

Its a standard UJ, for MANY applications you can get them all over.

Be careful, the size of UJ is age (& Chassis no) dependent, but the props are interchangeable, so it is not unknown to find the wrong age prop fitted. If you have to depend on your LR it might be worth getting one of each until you know which you have. Front & rear props can be different! It all depends what a previous owner has done.

OK I took the time to remove the front prop this afternoon. It would appear that the two UJ's are different sizes. I have not popped the UJ's from the prop yet ( need to use a friends vice) but did measure the cross piece in the middle up to the bottom of the bearing caps. And it appears that these are different sizes, is this possible?

The part number I quoted you is the SMALLER of the two, so the other ones are the big ones.

Thats all you need to know to order however many you need.

Ye don't need a vice to pop them out, only to push them back in;) Have a look here...

;) :D

The Parts for the Landy should arrive tomorrow.. I need to use the Landy to get to work.. Can I drive her with just the rear prop without having to do anything else..? Please excuse this newbie question..

I agree with don't thrash it in 2WD, but just out of interest, why do you recommend specifically taking it easy on corners?

because with all the power going to the rear wheels, it will become tail happy and be more likely to oversteer / break away. specially with mud tyres fitted.

I knew there'd be a good reason, thanks. Mind you as a Series III owner I run in 2wd all the time anyway. Probably not as much power though.

Hi Guys

Again thanks for your help. In the end the front prop had a different size UJ at either end. I guess this means that the front prop has been split at some point and two different halves used?
