U-Joint Circlips

I am changing a u-joint on th rear prop on my Defender 90. I am having a problem with a broken circlip stuck in the groove. I can move it but i can't get it out. Any suggestions ??

are both ears broken off or just one?

both ears are gone, at both sides.

if you get a set of vicegrips/molegrips and clamp one side into the groove (very tricky) then usign a very small slot screwdriver ( or a hook from a hook and pick set) pull the other side out and flick it up...........its a right bastard of a job to do but it can be done (i have had to do it a couple of times)

I got the little bugger. The mole grips wouldn't stay on but I used needle nose pliers I gripped the edge of the circlip and managed to drag it out far enough to get my knife blade in behind then a thin screwdriver and prised it out. That's it for today will fit the new joint tomorrow. thanks for your help.
