well i had an interesting weekend, still got the wobbly vibrating steering issue at 50/60mph,so i had the tyres checked, turns out 3 of them have high spots on them,so after i found the receipt out as i knew they were only 10 months old,i checked the mileage as i wrote it down the day they were fitted,to the current mileage they have done just over 6000 mile,so i contacted the place where i got them, only to be told i would have to contact cooper tyres as that,s what is fitted, and see if they would do any warranty stuff on them.
now ami right in thinking the place where i got them from should be sorting this out,as they sold them to me not the cooper themselves,im not going to mention the place i got them from yet as i can see me contacting trading standards over this

Sale of goods act, the seller is liable if the product is faulty or unsuitable for the purpose intended.

I the seller wants to take it up with their suplier, thats up to them.

Takes me back to when I was a kid and went to the circus and the clowns had a car with oval wheels!!

Don't take any ****e Andy, they sold the tyres and had your money with a smile, the buck stops with them..full stop. They are unfit for the purpose and should be replaced or your money refunded and don' fall for "We'll have to send them back for analysis" crap and don't part with any money.
6000 miles on a set of tyres is nothing..more so if you are running on 18" wheels.

Which Coopers are they?

I've Cooper Discoverer ATR's on the front of my Classic and found them really good. I've been trying to get more of them to no avail.
I've Cooper Discoverer Sport HP on the back of the P38 (had them on the front first but found them nasty enough, replaced with ubiqutous Pirelli Scorpions) with the best part of 30,000 miles no problem - They're knackered now though, completly worn out on the inside with about 4mm of thread along rest of tyre. Its down to loats of miles on heavily cambered forest tracks and Irish back roads.

So all in all I've no problem with Cooper, They're bloody cheap and honestly that ATR is a great tyre.

right here is the latest on this saga, after speaking to trading standards i informed the tyre place of my intentions, they then asked if i could take the car to them so there tyre fitter could have a look at them.this is the good bit.

as they have a new state of the art wheel balancing machine, the tyre fitter removed each wheel to check the run of the tyre along with the run of the wheel, one was ok,another one needed balancing which he did,the other 2 being the worst and a mile out,he marked the tyre in conjuction with the wheel, and then removed the tyre and rotated it 180 deg, then balanced it,he did the same with the other one, guess what no vibration what so ever, the car now drives really smooth and quite.

the problem the tyre fitter said was there must have been a bit to much rubber in a certain spot of the tyre and also a bit much alloy in the wheel, and some how they have married up and thrown the wheel and tyre balance right out of the window,he said it isn,t unheard of the problem with 4x4 wheels and tyres due to size and the fact that mass production doesn,t help.

he also said if you get a puncture when you get it repaired get the tyre fitter to mark the tyre with chalk in line with the valve prior to removal so the tyre can be refitted in the same place to keep it all true, i have got to hand it to the tyre fitter it took him about 30 mins to sort this out and the machine he used,is an excellent piece of kit about £25k,but they do specialize in 4x4 wheels tyres and accessories.

so all in all if you have constant bad vibration at around 50/60 mph consider having the tyre/s rotated on the wheel could be a cheap fix,but looking back i wonder if the seized vcu in the transfer box could have contibuted to my problem, just a shame the manager of the place was a bit of a to:mad::mad:er

Brilliant update Andy...no doubt it will be of interest to others.....if they can be bothered to do a search.
At last your sorted!!
Mod's. could we have a section for "Stickies" if it's possible so that common and useful posts could be put there?:behindsofa:

Make sure that you bring with you a copy of the report which identified the high spots. If you didn't get one go & get it : leave a copy with the supplier and tell them you'll be back in a week which will give them time to speak to the manufacturers but make it clear that it is the supplier's responsibility.
